The Turkish Biochemical Society

Mission & Vision

The mission of the Turkish Biochemical Society (TBS) is to advance and promote research and education in biochemistry in T眉rkiye. To realize this mission, TBS works to unify all scientists who work in the field of basic and applied biochemistry under the same umbrella, providing support for interdisciplinary collaboration and professional cooperation.

TBS aims to promote the advancement of biochemistry education in relevant educational institutions and hospitals by organizing workshops, seminars, and courses on both undergraduate and graduate levels. Five such international workshops were performed together with IUBMB Educational Committee between 1987 and 2012.

Key Activities

TBS supports its members by providing bursaries, fellowships, and awards; forming local and international collaborations for scientific research; organizing national and international scientific congresses and meetings; and promoting publications. The Turkish Journal of Biochemistry (TJB), published by TBS since 1976 bimonthly, covers research and review articles on all aspects of biochemistry and related fields and is indexed in Chemical Abstract since 1979, in addition to SCI-Expanded, Journal Citation Reports/Science Edition (SCIE-2007), Index Copernicus, Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), EMBASE and Scopus. Since 2015, TJB is published online by deGruyter and is open-access.

History

TBS was founded in 1975 in Ankara. Over the years TBS has flourished to become one of the leading national societies in T眉rkiye, with more than 3000 members and official branches in three major cities: Istanbul, Izmir, and Adana.

TBS has been a member of 澳门正版大全免费资料 (澳门正版大全免费资料) and IUBMB (International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology) since 1977. More recent memberships of our society include IFCC (International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine, 1997), FESCC (Federation of European Societies for Clinical Chemists, 1997), BCLF (Balkan Clinical Laboratory Federation, 1998) and EFLM (European Federation of Laboratory Medicine). TBS organized the 27th 澳门正版大全免费资料 Congress in 2002 and the 31st 澳门正版大全免费资料 Congress in 2006, both at Istanbul, T眉rkiye. We are honored to be hosting the 49th 澳门正版大全免费资料 Congress in Istanbul on July 5-10, 2025.

Membership

All scientists involved with biochemistry research, education, or health services can be members of TBS. Postgraduate students and young researchers in the field are encouraged to become members as well. Our society also accepts foreign biochemists living in neighboring countries, as well as non-residential scientists as members as long as they are Turkish citizens.
