OVERVIEW

The °ÄÃÅÕý°æ´óÈ«Ãâ·Ñ×ÊÁÏ Education and Training Committee has the mission of promoting biochemistry and molecular biology education and training at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. To realize this objective:

1. We provide leadership in training activities to increase the knowledge and skills of educators
2. We support and encourage the development of innovative teaching methods and educational resources
3. We organize activities and workshops designed to strategically improve education in the molecular life sciences
4. We disseminate good education policies, exchange ideas and share good practices through °ÄÃÅÕý°æ´óÈ«Ãâ·Ñ×ÊÁÏ Education Ambassadors
5. We distribute grants to support educational activities
6. We arrange education sessions at each °ÄÃÅÕý°æ´óÈ«Ãâ·Ñ×ÊÁÏ Congress

°ÄÃÅÕý°æ´óÈ«Ãâ·Ñ×ÊÁÏ Education Events

The organization and funding of °ÄÃÅÕý°æ´óÈ«Ãâ·Ñ×ÊÁÏ education events are a key way the aims of the °ÄÃÅÕý°æ´óÈ«Ãâ·Ñ×ÊÁÏ Education and Training Committee are realized. These include °ÄÃÅÕý°æ´óÈ«Ãâ·Ñ×ÊÁÏ Education and Training Committee Seasonal Webinars, °ÄÃÅÕý°æ´óÈ«Ãâ·Ñ×ÊÁÏ-sponsored Constituent Society education events, °ÄÃÅÕý°æ´óÈ«Ãâ·Ñ×ÊÁÏ Education and Training Committee workshops, and education activities at °ÄÃÅÕý°æ´óÈ«Ãâ·Ñ×ÊÁÏ Congresses. Committee members may also contribute on education matters at other °ÄÃÅÕý°æ´óÈ«Ãâ·Ñ×ÊÁÏ-supported events such as the °ÄÃÅÕý°æ´óÈ«Ãâ·Ñ×ÊÁÏ Young Scientists’ Forum and Advanced Courses. Upcoming and recent °ÄÃÅÕý°æ´óÈ«Ãâ·Ñ×ÊÁÏ Education events are listed in the Events section of this website, on the Education events page.

Details of how °ÄÃÅÕý°æ´óÈ«Ãâ·Ñ×ÊÁÏ Constituent Societies can apply for up to €1500 Euro to support their own education events, or discuss the realization of a °ÄÃÅÕý°æ´óÈ«Ãâ·Ñ×ÊÁÏ Education and Training Committee Workshop in their country, are given in the section of the °ÄÃÅÕý°æ´óÈ«Ãâ·Ñ×ÊÁÏ website on ‘Support for activities of °ÄÃÅÕý°æ´óÈ«Ãâ·Ñ×ÊÁÏ Constituent Societies’ here.

°ÄÃÅÕý°æ´óÈ«Ãâ·Ñ×ÊÁÏ Education Ambassadors

°ÄÃÅÕý°æ´óÈ«Ãâ·Ñ×ÊÁÏ Education Ambassadors is a unique structure in which °ÄÃÅÕý°æ´óÈ«Ãâ·Ñ×ÊÁÏ Constituent Societies have one appointed member as a representative. Education Ambassadors use a special mail group, as well as the °ÄÃÅÕý°æ´óÈ«Ãâ·Ñ×ÊÁÏ Education Platform and the °ÄÃÅÕý°æ´óÈ«Ãâ·Ñ×ÊÁÏ Network to exchange ideas and communicate on all issues on education. The Ambassadors have also met once a year for a few years for an education event, sponsored by °ÄÃÅÕý°æ´óÈ«Ãâ·Ñ×ÊÁÏ, to share progress and ideas on educational issues across Europe. In 2024, a ‘°ÄÃÅÕý°æ´óÈ«Ãâ·Ñ×ÊÁÏ Education Ambassador Board meeting’ was be held during an open longer , in Antalya, Türkiye.

°ÄÃÅÕý°æ´óÈ«Ãâ·Ñ×ÊÁÏ Education Award

On its 60th anniversary year, °ÄÃÅÕý°æ´óÈ«Ãâ·Ñ×ÊÁÏ has launched the prestigious °ÄÃÅÕý°æ´óÈ«Ãâ·Ñ×ÊÁÏ Education Award to highlight and honour an educator with a distinguished teaching and training career path in the field of molecular life sciences. Exemplary dedication to enhance the quality of student learning and experience along with a track record of applying impactful and innovative approaches in advancing learning and teaching within the realm of molecular life sciences are the main pillars. Through this award, °ÄÃÅÕý°æ´óÈ«Ãâ·Ñ×ÊÁÏ not only aims to recognize and celebrate sustained and continued excellence and impact in molecular life sciences education and training but also to inspire others in fostering engaging, creative, and transformative educational experiences for students. Nomination is by a °ÄÃÅÕý°æ´óÈ«Ãâ·Ñ×ÊÁÏ Constituent Society or self nomination along with a support letter of the Society.

We are delighted to announce the inaugural recipient of the °ÄÃÅÕý°æ´óÈ«Ãâ·Ñ×ÊÁÏ Education Award is Prof. Robert A. Harris, nominated by the Swedish Society for Biochemistry, Biophysics & Molecular Biology (SSBBMB). Read the news post about the recipient here.

An Education section in °ÄÃÅÕý°æ´óÈ«Ãâ·Ñ×ÊÁÏ Open Bio

Following a proposal from the °ÄÃÅÕý°æ´óÈ«Ãâ·Ñ×ÊÁÏ Education and Training Committee, the open access journal °ÄÃÅÕý°æ´óÈ«Ãâ·Ñ×ÊÁÏ Open Bio began a new section devoted to original and valuable publications in biochemical and molecular life sciences education. The overall aim of this initiative is to foster good educational practices, stimulate the development of innovative teaching methods, and disseminate advice on educational techniques and resources. For further details and recent articles, find the °ÄÃÅÕý°æ´óÈ«Ãâ·Ñ×ÊÁÏ Open Bio education section .

An Educator channel on the °ÄÃÅÕý°æ´óÈ«Ãâ·Ñ×ÊÁÏ Network

One section of the  is dedicated to blog-style posts on teaching approaches and resources for lecturers and tutors in the molecular life sciences, as well as announcements on education activities.  If you would like to contribute a post to the °ÄÃÅÕý°æ´óÈ«Ãâ·Ñ×ÊÁÏ Network Educator channel, please contact [email protected]
